Hi, moving from guitar>bass

My first post here. I have been playing guitar for about 25yrs. Accumulated just about every guitar that I wanted. Yet I still look to entertain myself. So I decided to learn bass.

I bought a used 1992 Fender p-bass plus in black burst. Great condition, non original p/u's. Rosewood board.

Used GK 700rbII. Looking for a 1x15 cab now.

I frequent thegearpage.net under same name.

Influences: McKagan, Sixx, Simmons, Burton.... anything old school.

Look forward to many postings here!

Playing bass is very individual. You make the bassline in your head which stands out most when the notes are played on another part of the neck to where the guitar plays and at its best with contrasting melodies that only move with the root notes in lieu of following them.
Old school players impress audiences even today whereas a younger root note strummer will never stand out.
This standing out, makes you different to the next guy and makes the song your own.
Many old school players also played their own hits a little differently to the recordings as they got overly familiar with them and "doodled" a few notes here and there that didn't compromise the song but kept it their own.
The best influences you could learn from wouls be the Biggest Mac, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones, Andy Fraser who will teach you when not to play and of course Entwhistle.
After learning for 42 years, noone since has impressed as much and I get the compliments which urkes the guitar players. Kinda fun too as you know you pleased your audience.
Welcome to the low end. I hope you enjoy your new musical life.

Welcome

Hey there, welcome to the world of bass! You just made one of the best decisions in life. The more dust that accumulates on those guitars the better, it means your having more fun. I think Geezer Butler should be added to the list, when I started playing it was all Sabbath and Zeppelin basslines for me. Start groovin man
