Hi, I found this site about a week ago and have already found lots of useful information. What a great thing you have going here, I've never seen such an active musician-related forum! I'm a longtime gigger as a (lefty) rhythm guitarist, and until recently I played bass only for some of one-off gigs and for my own home recordings.

Back in March, I joined a group of my fellow employees who were organizing a Motown-style band for the purpose of entering FORTUNE magazine's annual "Battle of the Corporate Bands" contest. (Contest website is here: http://namm.com/fortunebandbattle/). They needed a bass player, and wow, I've had so much fun with bass that I may never pick up a guitar again.

We've been advancing in the contest all summer long, and a couple of weeks ago we advanced to the national finals, to be held in October on the stage of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Holy cow, for this lowly amateur it's the thrill of a lifetime. I still can just barely believe it, I think my brain may have been abducted by aliens.

Anyway, I couldn't help but share that. I'm looking forward to continuing to visit here often. See ya!

Thanks Blueszilla! It's called Soul Focus, a fairly large band with a 3-piece horn section, female backup vocal group, etc. Playing mostly late 60s/early 70s R&B (Signed Sealed Delivered, Tell Me Something Good, Will It Go Round In Circles, and similar). It's been fun stuff to play!
