Hi all you bassists.
My name is Noel Evans, and I live in Paremata which is near Wellington, New Zealand. I am 67 years old, and haven't played for a while, but am just getting back into it with some of my peers. My interest is in jazz and in my younger days played with the best on the local scene. I guess my most notable achievement is having accompanied Carmen McRae when she toured NZ in the 70s.
Most of my age group are wedded to Dixie which I play but don't prefer, so I have located some old musician friends, one of whom has returned to the area after 20+ years away, and am putting together a trio plus a female vocalist. I've noticed that as the demographics in NZ get older there is a nostalgia for Standards and lounge jazz, so I'm attempting to develop the group to take advantage of what I see as an opportunity.
I have an old flat back Czech bass (Juzek, maybe) which has always been admired for its jazz sound and excellent attack. I've recently upgraded from an original Barcus Berry pickup to a Revolution Solo II, and my amp is a Trace Elliot (UK) Boxer 65, and I'm really pleased with the quality of sound I'm getting. So much so that I've discontinued using my old Fishman pre-amp.
Kind regards to all, and best wishes for 2007
