Hi from Wilkes Barre, PA

Sign in to disble this ad
I just wanted to say hello.
I've been playing bass on and off for about 30 years. These days I don't really play out too much but have devoted my time to doing music collaborations. About two years ago a keyboardist and I formed something we like to call The E-Music Project, and we currently have musicians participating from all over the world.
Getting into music production has opened a whole new world for me. Its really quite enjoyable.

My #1 bass these days is a Carvin LB70WP.

Rock on

Mark - welcome.

How is Wilkes Barre these days? My mom's family is from there and we used to visit a few times every summer.
I remember it as a small town surrounded by mountains where we could walk to the candy store on the corner. Definitely had a small town/back-in-time feel in those days. (70's)
I'd bet it's different now?

I relocated from Long Island about a year ago after living there most of my life. WB is a bit of a culture shock for me but I wanted to move to a place with a lower cost of living and a more relaxed lifestyle. WB itself is a bit run down after having been damaged by a large flood around 1972. They still haven't recovered from it.
Its a nice place and the wife and I love it. WB is in a valley and there are mountains all around.

Its funny..the first day I was here one of my movers tried to recruit me as a bassist or sound guy for their gigging band. I knew that I came to the right place

Hurricane Agnes, I remember it well. It nearly destroyed that town. My relatives miraculously were on high ground and got through relatively unscathed.
How are the housing prices over there? The missus and I are actually house-hunting at the moment in NJ. NJ's insane with taxes and housing prices anymore.

I dont know about the housing prices. I sold my house in NY and moved into an apartment temporarily. I like it so much that I dont really see any need to buy one here.

Im renting a 4 bedroom apt for about $1100/month. On long Island it would probably rent for anywhere from 2500-4500 depending on which town it was in. I would imagine that the housing prices reflect the same ratio. The general cost of living here also follows around the same ratio.
In NY my property taxes were near 10K/year. Ridiculous!
I miss the conveniences that living in NY offers but its a small price to pay IMHO.

If you need any specific information, or if there is anything I can do to help please let me know.
