What's up, folks!?

I've already made a couple of posts here but I haven't officially dripped by to introduce myself....I'm not even officially a bass player yet....

I'm in Oklahoma and I'm a six-stringer who is currently not gigging but I have in the past, mostly with a "metal" band.
I've been on hiatus and out of the music scene for quite a while, and doing a lot of writing at home and occasionally lending some help on other's projects.
I've always been interested in picking up the bass and I have set in on a few gigs as a fill-in bass player in the past...which was very fun.
I dunno'....I guess lately I'm kinda' bored or maybe in a 'rut' with the six-string and decided to pursue the bass for added inspiration if nothing else.
My musical tastes are very diverse, running from:
Minor Threat,Black Flag & Bad Brains, to Slayer, CoC, & Megadeth, to Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, & John Lee Hooker!
....I love Delta blues and do play some bottleneck and just a bit of lapsteel.
But...my "roots" I guess you could say are in hard rock/metal/hardcore...whatever.

At any rate, I'm thinking of picking up a P-bass and some sort of cost-effective but suitable 'live' rig , and possibly starting up again.
I've tried out quite a few basses and I keep gravitating towars the P-basses so I'm pretty much sold on those.
I normally play Strats, so it's kind of a natural transition, I think.
Right now, I'm just plinkin' on some el-cheapo no name bass that I borrowed from my step-dad who is a drummer, in an attempt to hone me skills.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this site and the members about gear selection and technique,etc...as well as just shootin' the breeze.
...and speaking of "shootin'", I also run a local shooting/firearms enthusiast board in Oklahoma.
To be honest, I haven't reviewed all of the posting rules here yet, so I won't post a link to it because I don't know if shooting/guns are a forbidden subject on this board.
If so, no biggie I guess (grrr), but if it's cool I'll post a link and y'all are welcome to drop by and pay us a visit as well.....we've got a few musicians over there.

I guess that's about it, so I'ma get back to reading.
Take care.
J.P.
