Howdy Y'all!

I just found this forum from TGP, where some told someone else about this place for bass info.
My name is Cleet. I've been a bass player for 14 years now. I'm a converted guitar player. It happened when a good friend of mine needed a bass player because his had just left for the Airforce and they had a bunch of gigs lined up. I told him I'd tolk to my bass player and see if he'd like to fill the gigs, but my bassist had joined the Army with out ever telling us, or any one for that fact. His parents found out when he called from bassic training!
So I said I'll do it. I had been playing guitar for about 10-11 yrs by then. (started when I was 7) . Not knowing much about bass and had less than a week to find out,Poor and very broke, I jumped in blindly and fastly.
I went down to our local music store and got a cheap bass. It was some kind of Frankenstien bass. Harmony body, knock-off jazz bass neck. Had a p/j configureation. Stock Harmony J-pick up and a Dimarzo P pick-up. Turns out it was frettless too! I had like 2 minutes to find a bass and go. It wasn't untill we got back that I realized it was frettless!!! Got it for $75.00, so it would have to work. I was poor...
Amp: pieced together what I had. A 60 or 100 watt soild state Crate guitar head thrown into a Kustom 115 PA cab, the kind with horn like shape to it. Got it for $60 at a pawn shop some months ago. I was off and running.
I had 4 or 5 days to learn 45 songs, 35 orignals, 10 covers that they made thier own. By the way, this was a Ska/Pop-Punk band. Crash course with no learning curve!
We pulled it off with just a few sour notes here and there. I had fret markers, so that helped.
I loved it so much that I stayed on bass. Got better gear over the years. In fact, I stayed with that band. The bands music chanced a lot over the years as we grew up and got better. We grew into something batter than we ever thought it would become. The band was on/ off throught the years seen a lot of drummers come and go. A big learning experance for me. I played with some of the best and worst out there....
But at last the band has to go on with out me. I just moved to NY from Florida. We wrote lots of great songs that I plan on playing here as soon as I can get a band together.

Right now I play a '95 Fender Am. P-bass throught a Peavey Pro 500 head and 410 cab. I've always loved Peavey BASS amps. They always sound great and built better than most that I've played. This is my 5th Peavey amp throught the years, my fist being the MarkIV. I've played many others, nothing too high-end, I've never been rich, and not planning on it any time soon either.
I've always enjoyed P-basses the most. I've owned/ played many others over the years, but my trusty P is always by my side.
Anyways, so far I love what I've seen here and plan on sticking around for awhile, if you guys will let me. Just wish I found this sooner!
