Walk with me, Suzy Lee, through the park, by the tree...
*ahem*
Anyway. Mornin', all. I'm a guitarist/week-old bassist, and music is my life. But I'm sure you've all heard that before. I'm into progressive music mostly, as well as metal, blues and punk. I was searching Google for a fancy-looking bass thread and it brought me to your doorstep, so here I am, in all my n00bish glory.
I've been playing electric guitar for about 7 years (self-taught), but last week for Christmas I gathered up my cash and finally got a bass. I'd been looking into it for a few months, but I had never touched a 4-string before Christmas Day, 2010. And I can't believe I waited that long.
This is going to sound stupid and cliché, but when I first started to play that bass, I felt more at home than I ever had with guitar. It felt so natural. I had never been able to get above any kind of mediocre level with guitar, and it would frustrate me - like I had hit a glass ceiling, and nothing I could do would help. I would practise day in, day out, but I just couldn't play as well as I'd hoped and dreamed.
I've been playing bass for a week, and I already feel like this is the instrument for me. I mean, when I played guitar, I always preferred playing rhythm, and I never could play lead that well at all. I can play a few songs in their entirety on bass already - but I won't let that get ahead of me. I've been practising on average about 6 hours a day, whenever I get a spare moment.
I want to get really good at bass. I want to be able to move into a band situation and play on stage, which I've never really done. So I'm going to put in the hours until I can.
In the meantime, I'm hoping to stick around here and learn from the best - the players themselves. I hope to have a good time here, and to learn lots.
Until next time, rock on. |
