recommendation

If you're a jazzer like you say you are, and would like a bass that's easy on a beginner, you should check out a Fender. I've played a few in my time, and the P Bass or standard Jazz Bass is a great model. Plus, if you're just starting out, the P Bass with a 3/4 scale (24") might be more your speed. The scale tends to be easier on inexperienced hands. Plus, The bass I learned to play on was a 3/4 scale, and I still use it as a practice tool. It makes those difficult stretches much easier.
