Irishman stranded in Alabama

Self taught. I was once a drummer, but don't hold that against me. Decided to pick up the bass 4 years ago. I couldn't read music and was intimidated. But I was bitten the first time I saw Steve Harris and his galloping bassline in Run For The Hills. Then came a Mr. Claypool. While I play nothing like these guys, they opened the door to the likes of Jamerson, Wooten, Miller, and the list goes on. I love the info I gleen from you guys, and hope that I may be able to add something of value. I look forward to furthering my obssession.

Grandparents moved immigrated here. this place is like the twighlight zone. Have left many times and keep ending up right back here. Actually not so bad here. Beautiful landscape, most of the people are nice and supportive, and the misquitos offer shade as they fly overhead.

Better learn the Banjo fast. J/K I live in Georgia and it's just as bad here.

BTW Why did your Grandparents choose Alabama?

Spent some time in Mobile and Dothan but it wasn't all that great to me.

God Bless, Ray

I live just north of Dothan. They picked Alabama for the farming and the land was cheapest here.

Good Idea land wise. At least you can't get lost in Dothan, everything is "Off the Circle".
And your less than an hour from Destin which is a decent beach.

God Bless, Ray

I am glad they voted to remove the "NO IRISH" sign at the county line (kidding!) We get a bad rap here, but people are people no matter where you go We have bad people but I think they are out numbered. It's not the cultural center of the universe but we have a good time. We are glad you are here.

If you think being Irish here is rough, try having the name Kelly and being male. I toughened in time...and got bigger. As far as this forum, omg my fiance hates everyone here, as I spend a lot of time reading here, lawl.

A good friend of mine from school was a guy named Kelly. I'd rag him over that and he'd rag me for walking on crutches. All in good fun.

And tell your fiancee I said

God Bless, Ray

I'm in Mobile. Living in a rural location in any state would be tough for me.
