Hello everyone! My name is Megan (you can call me bender if you like), I'm seventeen years olf and I'm pretty much brand new, but still addicted, to bass!
I play didgeridoo, drums, hammered dulcimer, piano, and i own and can play ocarina and panpipes. I have always loved guitars, but i'm not very good with string instruments. Once, a friend of mine showed me how to play a few songs on her bass guitar at a sleepover, and I noticed how fun it was and how easily it came to me. Recently, I've been going into Guitar Center to get drumsticks or something, and I see basses and heard them and absolutely fell for them.
I decided in October to save up for my own bass guitar--my original plan was to save $700 by graduation in June and buy myself a Fender P-Bass and 15-watt amp by using spare change and any dollars i saw sticking out in my bedroom. I made it up to $60.07 in about a month or so.
On Thanksgiving, after my dad saw how much i had saved in so little time and could tell i was totally serious, completely surprised me. When I went to my grandma's house (he lives in mississippi and i live in ohio, so we stay there when he comes to visit) I see on the piano bench this beautiful black-and-white guitar on top of an amp.
She is an Ibanez SRX-505, my very first bass, and is absolutely beautiful. While I am without a teacher, I have DVDs, exercises, and I figured out all by myself how to read tabs the day after I got her. I can now play a whole song, and parts and peices of four others.
Unfortunately, my mother will not allow me to have her at my house...she says I have too many other instruments already and won't negotiate. My grandma will allow me to come over to practice as much as i like, though.
So, uh, lol, that's my story! I hope to learn a lot from the forums here, and look forward to spending my down time talking with y'all!

booo, tell mom there's no such thing as too many instruments! i've only been playing for three years, started when i was seventeen as well, and i only love it more now than i did then. i played the guitar for six years before that, and it never moved my soul the way the bass does. keep on groovin!

It gives ya one more reason to go hang out at granny's house! My grandma turned me on to bass cause she used to play the bass pedals with her Hammond B-3 organ ...she was really talented ...way more than me.
Welcome to the forum bender

welcome to TB, bender! glad to have you around.

i've been playing bass for 17 years now, and i've loved every minute of it! i've learned to play many other instruments in that time, but the bass is the one instrument that all the others seem to revolve around.

congratulations on your new baby!
