As my name indicates I'm a new bassist (taking lessons for 2 years). And the age in my profile is correct, 48.
I have been in or around music for much of my life. In my eariler years I played french horn (classical) and trumpet (Jazz) so I have formal training.
Over the years I have longed to get back into music but did not want to go back to classical (too formal and rigid).
I started playing Rock Band with some friends and found that I liked bass better than the other instruments. So I got a cheap bass starter pack, found an instructor and started playing for real!!
I am hoping to play in a band one day and practice with that in mind. No I don't have delusions of rock star glory, I just want to play music again (at my age I can't deal with the partying involved
