Just a quick introduction!

Hi All!

Just thought I would introduce myself.

My name is Darren and I have been trying to learn the bass for a few years now without a great deal of success. My username comes from the fact that I probably "play" worse than Sid Vicious ever did!

I am not unconfident, just realistic about my ability. I have just returned to the UK after 5 years in Paris and find myself in the new location of Milton Keynes. I played in a couple of expat cover bands in Paris and we would regularly play small gigs in Irish pubs. The bands consisted of a 2/3 of acoustic guitars with effects, a singer and me doing some pretty basic stuff on the bass (no percussion). To be honest, the rest of the lads probably carried me as they were good musicians, and quite happy for me to add to the sound with a bit of bass. The set would consist of pop / indie type numbers: The Cure, Bowie, U2, REM, Neil Young, Coldplay, The Violent Femmes etc.

As I have just got my stuff out of storage (including my musical equipment), I've not picked up my guitar for over 6 months, and, as I have a memory close to that of a daffodil, I am sad to say that I need to go right back to the start and learn again!

OK, so the bottom line is that I am looking for a teacher around the Milton Keynes area for some lessons. He will have to be very patient, with the aim of changing my user name to BetterThanSid! I would like to learn some indie / punk pop stuff: The Killers, Artic Monkeys, Green Day, Hard Fi, Blink 182, Foo Fighters, The Jam . . that sort of thing! Preference would be to learn finger style as oppossed to a plectrum. (Ultimate aim would be to pull off the odd Flea riff but I don't think I have that many years left in me!).

So does anyone know of some local teachers out there! I was talking to a lad last night (Simon) who was playing bass in a great cover band (Audio . ..something) in City Limits MK who recommended Steve Lawson from Northampton. I know he is on this site but as I am new to this, can someone tell me how I go about contacting him?

Any help would be much apprecited people.

Keep on Rockin'!

LOL! Great name!

If you want to contact Steve Lawson, try doing a search for him in the MEMBER'S LIST, and drop him a line.

Good luck!
