hows it going, my name is Gabe and Ive been playing my bass for about a decade now, Ive been in a couple of bands, played a bunch of shows but only really started stated playing a few weeks ago...
haha yeah, back in '98 or '99 the bass player for our youth group's band moved away and my youth paster volunteered me to take his place even though I had never even touched a bass before. two weeks after I had touched a bass for the first time I was already playing my first show. i didnt know any scales or theory or anything, just the notes for the songs I had to play. since then, ive played on and off and could play most anything, as long as someone else had already written it. I printed off countless tabs and when I was playing in a jam session I would just play a riff from a song I had learned. i was slow at improvising because while I knew what I wanted to play, it would take me a few tries to find the right notes. I recently picked up my bass again for the first time in a year or so and decided to teach myself the "right way" or whatever. so far ive learned( i apologize if the names are off) the basic major and minor scales, minor pentatonic scale and the japanese hirojoshi scale. Ive already noticed a huge improvement in my ablility to improv and to write my own stuff. since Im now more addicted than Ive ever been and have been spending hours scanning these forums everyday, I figured I become a part of this community. sorry for the book I just wrote haha
