Little introduction W/a Question

Hey guys, (and gals)

I am new to your site. Just wanted to say hi! Only been playing for a couple of years. Always trying to improve my ability and learn new things. Looking forward to getting some great info from experienced bass players. I've already picked up some tips.
My question is: I am thinking about putting tape wound strings on my acoustic bass. It is fretted, and I was wondering how well they would stand up and what kind of sound I can expect to get out of them?
