not only in reference to the forum, but bass in general. i've always loved the bass. when i was a toddler it was red hot chili peppers; when i was a little older it was primus; when i was older still it was the minutemen and death from above 1979.
the bass has always fascinated me, whether it be actual bass or basitar.
one band i have listened to from my childhood until now (my late childhood at 20 years old) is CAKE. gabe nelson is the driving force behind that band and i love what he does. victor damiani is obviously up for equal praise given all the memorable lines he's laid down as well (including "up so close" on MoG. wow!)
but anyways, (t)he(y) is(are) responsible for my love of bass more than anyone else. hence the name.
i've played guitar since i was 10. i love the guitar, it's a family tradition of sorts. my grandfather was a fairly established studio musician in memphis in his day. back in november of '08 my friend needed a bass player for his band, and i needed something productive to do with my time. i joined and we're really hitting it off. i'm looking to expand my horizons a little bit though. i don't want to just be a guitar player playing bass anymore (or a basitarist to bastardize sandman/ballew's term a little); i want to be a bass player.
i'm planning on taking lessons through the university music department next semester, but i also want to sit around here to absorb your knowledge and advice.
thanks a ton in advance!
