Hey all. I've read these boards a lot but I don't think I ever got around to signing up for an account before now - pretty much every time I've had a question, somebody's already answered it here and I haven't needed to ask!

But I just bought a new bass last week and need a place to post about it with people who might actually be vaguely interested - my husband is very patient but there's really only so much bass talk he can be expected to listen to...

I was playing a 2003 Fender P-bass, which I loved (though I'm going to have to sell it to pay for the new bass - breaks my heart, but I know I'd regret letting the new bass get away more). I lucked into finding a used MM Stingray5 w/piezo, in pacific blue burst with a gorgeous abalone pickguard - it is absolutely beautiful and sounds amazing.

I play in a project here in Vancouver - it's called ARCTIC, and is sometimes a solo project by Marcus Martin and sometimes a band. When it's a band, I'm in it. We played at NXNE (Canada's answer to SXSW) this year and we play somewhere in town about every month.

Anyway, great to meet all of you!

Kirsten

Welcome to TalkBass Kirsten, it's good to meet you too. My wife nods politely when I get to rambling about basses and music... I know how it goes

I just had a listen to Artic on Myspace... pretty cool stuff!

How are you dealing with the jump to 5 string? Got any more shots of the new one? It looks pretty cool in the little bit I can see in the one you posted.

Thanks for the welcome! I'll post some more SR pics tonight - got them on the 'puter at home but not this one I'm on right now.

I had a few days of awkwardness with the 5-string, and I was a little worried at first (especially after reading a lot of people here who said they couldn't really adjust). I was only renting it at the time, just to make sure it was The One before committing. But it felt right after a few days, and now if I pick up my P-bass and try tapping I keep smacking in between the strings for the first minute or so. I feel very much at home with the 5-string now. I've got one song that involves a lot of string crossings, and I think that helped me out more than any of the usual exercises I do.

Just took it in on Monday to get set up, and I'm picking it up this evening - I can hardly wait - it played really well already, but now it's going to feel like a Ferrari. (Not that I'd know what a Ferrari feels like, but I can guess.)
