I can't explain it, but here I am perfectly fine as a euphoniumist, bass trombonist, occasional (VERY occasional) tenor trombonist, and tubist, and I find myself calling a friend of Mrs. E's who is in the string bidness to order a Shen SB 180.
I know absolutely NOTHING about playing bass viol, double bass, string bass, or whatever else kind of name that is associated with probably an instrument that is both indispensable to any ensemble and a major PITA to the person who has to transport, schlep, set up, safeguard, store, and otherwise get through the gig to survive another one.
Well, on second thought, maybe I know a little about the logistics of playing the bass, insofar as I've seen the amount of hardware that players schlep around.
So the instrument isn't even here yet (will be in a couple of weeks).
Mrs. E's friend tells me that the bass will be outfitted with a Fishman Full Circle pickup. (I think that's the electronic gizmo that you plug an amp into, right?)
Anyway, I'm gonna make like a sponge and soak up all the stuff you guys shovel at me -- and with this intro, I'm headin' into the woodshed where I at least know a little bit about my other axes...
