My 1st post. Need pickup advice.

Hello:

This is my first post here. I've been playing bass since 1991, when I started with a cheap Maxtone bass with a Washburn homebucker pickup. Unfortunately that bass sounded really bad, but that made me save for my Washburn MB-6 (6 string) which is my daily tool. I play in my home studio through a Mackie mixer a dbx 166A compressor, Aphex 104 aural exciter and dbx graphic eq and through my Yamaha NS-10 speakers amped by a 1975 Phillips amp. For concerts I have a Peavey TN160 amp with a 14" speaker.

I mostly play Dream Theater and now starting with Rush. I hope I can be of help in this forum. I've never been to a musician's forum before. Only car/auto/4x4 forums, but that's another subject.

Perhaps someone can start by giving me some advice. The top pickup in my MB-6 bass is dying. I have to slap it real hard until it'll wake up, but otherwise only the bridge pickup will work, making it sound bad. Where can I find a replacement pickup? Seems that most aftermarket pickups I've seen are larger (mine is like a wider J style pickup) but most 6 string pickups I've seen are more like a homebucker. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I live in Guatemala, Central America. And so far I don't know of any stores here that sell new pickups. So I'll have to order from the US once I find the right one. Thanks

Try Stewmac.com (Stewart McDonald), Musiciansfriend.com, or just search for bass guitar pickups. Ebay is, of course always worth a shot.
