Heya folks!

I just turned 40 and just began exploring bass this year. I played guitar for years(and still do), but I feel like I finally found my instrument when I picked up bass. I started with an OLP copy of
an EBMM bass. Soon after, I scored a Schecter C4XXX and a Carvin MB10 combo. and last month, I was able to snag a 1980
Kramer XL-8 8 string. I started out by learning the Beatles' "Lady Madonna", and I'm currently trying to learn stuff like: "Crosstown Traffic", "Blue Turk", "Billion Dollar Babies", and "Rolling in the Deep".

I have only really played bass except for being a vocalist. I've been playing since I was 20 and that's almost 25 years ago and I absolutely love bass guitar. I understand it more than any other instrument. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Good for you!!!

I started tinkering around on the bass not too long ago as well. Like you I’ve been a guitar player for years and I’ve always loved to listen to a good bass player (guys like Steve Harris and Geddy Lee come to mind). Anyway I picked up for recording purposes to help me to be a little more self sufficient. It’s really been a learning experience for me though and has given me a new appreciation of the skill and ability of the guys I’ve played with in the past. Not sure if I’ll ever be good enough to play it in a band setting or not. I sorta’ feel like a guitar player on bass. Good for you on picking it up and starting to learn. I’m in my 40’s too and I think it’s never too late…

Sounds like me. I've played since I was 10. Guitar and bass mainly, but I've tried out violin, piano, bodhran, tin-whistle, and mandolin(still working on this one). Bass has always and continues to be my favourite.

Mandolin eh?

I've tried the mandolin out as well with limited success. The way it was explained to be is that it's bottom string is the E, second is the A, third is the D, and fourth is the G, so if your playing chords, it's sort of upside down from what you do on a guitar. A little weird to get used to and I've only tried it a couple of times but that theory works for me and I love the sound of it.

Im a piano player from the start. I started taking piano lessons since i was approx. 5 years old and have been playing it ever since but when i started bass playing 3 years ago, it felt like i found the instrument i could put all my energy into performing.
