Hey guys, my name's Tom, as you can likely tell from the username by this post. You might also be able to figure out that I'm a fan of Star Wars, from the "Darth". I'm 15 years old, and a few weeks ago I decided that I would like to learn to play Bass Guitar.

I've wanted to play guitar for some time now, but never could really commit to the idea. It was an air guitar filled teenage dream until recently, when I started to do some browsing. Eventually, I decided upon Bass, because I love the low end on everything. If the Bass on something can be boosted, I'm all for it, from my iPod to my computer speakers. There's nothing like a good kick in the chest from some Bass. I also really like the role of a Bass player, setting the rhythm and melody and the like. I've never been a fan for the limelight or stage antics of guitar either, so Bass was a logical choice.

For my first Bass, which I've managed to con my parents into buying me for Christmas, I chose an ESP F-104. I know some of you will say it's not the best choice, but I'm just starting out. I love how it looks, and I think that's a really important aspect for a beginner. I should want to pick it up, you know? Coolness is conducive to practicing.

I have no experience playing, and won't be able to play for a good month or so. I hope you'll all forgive me for making an account here this early into the game, but I wanted to be part of the community. This post is starting to get long winded, so I'll cut it off here.

-Tom, glad to be a TBer

(By the way, don't worry. I'm well aware of the search function, and new topics from me will be very rare.)

Hey man, I've played guitar forever, but am new to bass, too.

You're absolutely right about the looks thing for a beginner. The thing making you want to play it is the most important aspect at first.
