Hey all I'm new to playing the Bass, I've only been playing for about a month now. But I've been a Drummer since 1991 and been in lot's of different bands as a drummer but I always wanted to play the Bass, I just love the low notes. Anyway I'm going to a drummers house this Saturday to jam with because were hoping to start a blues band so I'm really nervous but I've been practicing for 1 to 2 hours everyday for the past month, Is it to early to get together with this drummer I think I'm ready to but unsure any advice would be great thanks.

Basically, a "key" is a tonal center (G) and certain notes within a "scale" move around the "key" note. You have how a scale is built and the relationships among all the notes within the scale to play the "right" notes within the tonal center.

Check out Intro to Scale and Chord Theory to get the lowdown on a more detailed answer to your question.

Questions like this one are best posted in the General Instruction forum.

Best regards,
Stumbo
