Greetings. First post so let em fill you in on me.
I've have been an off and on player for about 22 years now. I was a avid player in my younger days now I am a family man. After my first child I sold all my gear and I have just gotten back into it after a 5 year layoff. I am the proud owner of a Geddy Lee Jazz, yes the new expensive one but I don't care, I have waited years for one and I wanted it untouched.
I have owned a few basses in my day no names to start, then upgraded I thought to a washburn and a few Rickenbackers.
I have to share this story of my first Rickenbacker. I was in college and was in a pawn shop just looking around with a buddy and on the wall was a black Rickenbacker bass 4001 for sale. Missing the nameplate, broken pickguard, scratched up and on the back of the body three dooshbags carved their names in it, and I mean deep into the wood. Well I looked it over, knew what it was, and it still worked well. I bought it for $180.
I took it to a guy I happen to know at the time in Houston which was where I was from, and live today. And he took about 8 weeks and refurbished the Ric and returned it to me looking like it was brand spanking new. All for $300. So for a cost of $480 I had one of the finest guitars ever. In fact I took it immediatly to get restrung and I remember the guy telling me it was one of the baddest basses he had ever seen. I was proud.
I played that bass for years and it sounded incredible. Just phenom tone. Unfortunatly hard times fell upon me and while sruggling to afford school etc I was forced to sell it. I won't say what I sold it for but I assure you it was nowhere close to what it was worth. It still hurts today, the right guitar at the wrong time in my life. I vow to have another.
So anyhow due to some personal issues I have decided to fullfill myself and get back into playing. I make a great living so buying gear is no big deal and I love it. And I have decided to purchase a new bass every year to grow a collection. The Ged is #1. And I am trying to decide on the next one, I have the next 4 that I want to purchse lined up I think, but in what order I don't know. It will be I'll buy it when I see it thing.

Anyow, glad to of found this place to find people with the same desire I have for the bass.

Welcome aboard!

And if you want to limit your self to only one bass a year, this forum is going to be tough for you. When you see some of the gear these guys are buying, the G.A.S. is really going to set in.

I understand but I need to send my kids to college and the basses I am thinking of are not that cheap. And cruising through some of the threads and seeing some of the gear out there it is tough, but I am willing to be patient since I know if I wait I can buy whatever I want when I find it.

btw what the hell is G.A.S.?

It can mean "Guitar Acquisition Syndrome" or "Gear Acquisition Symptoms" or some combination of those. You know when you get it!
