New guy - Much to learn

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm an aspiring bass player located near St. Louis, Mo. I've recently converted to bass by necessity (needs of my church). So it seems I have much much to learn.

So far I'm just rocking the root, and honestly even as I learn more in this journey, I still groove on just being on time and on pitch on the root. I have much stronger rhythm and dynamic skills than I do ability to walk or stray from the root, so I focus on those instead for now.

I'm currently playing a Yamaha 4-string of unknown model I picked up off of local Craigslist for $75. It has a single P-style pickup. At least it is quiet and doesn't have any buzz in the electronics or frets. The amp is a G/K head of some sort going through a 4x10 cab - it appears my ignorance knows no bounds.

Once I learn a bit more about things and have a chance to have a go at a 5-string, and active electronics, and whatever other variables there are, I'll decide about how much I want to spend and what style of bass I'd like to move into.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and look forward to learning all that I can.
