Folks,
I've lurked on this site on and off for a while but finally decided to register and post a bit.
I am an extreme amateur that dabbles in electric bass guitar and a bit of acoustic guitar & world percussion.
I took bass lessons a long while back but I am quite rusty. I jam a bit here and there but haven't been in a band in years. I recently began doing some performances with our church band. And so the sleeping giant awakens.
My gear:
Tobias Growler 5: Boy have I been reading a lot about the Growler in the bass forum! I have a nice one purchased in the mid nineties. The neck was smooth and even right off the shelf. I had it set up last year as the action was getting a tad high. But that's been it. The neck has been stable and the bass works well for me.
Fender Precision Bass Plus. This was my first bass ever. I purchased it in 1989. Again with the vast knowledge on this forum I've learned that this is the "Boner Bass". I don't play this one very much any more but I keep it because it was my first. I love the feel of the neck (satin finish), especially for muted funky thumpy fingerstyle playing.
Early Music Man Stingray 4. I bought this in the early nineties. It was a disaster - Someone had pulled the frets, spray painted the entire front of the body and neck with black spray paint, then several coats of polyurethane spray to make it a "fretless". The tone was so awesome when I played this thing that I bought it even with the hacks (fer 90 bucks!!!!). I gently sanded all the bogus paint off and had a good tech coat the (maple) neck with epoxy. I played it fretless for a while then had it re-fretted. It is one of the early Music Man basses. I checked the serial number a few years ago and it is one of the first few years it was in production. Again I don't play this one very often but keep it around as I've invested so much of myself into it.
Amps:
SWR Workingmans' 12 (Pre Fender). I also like playing my acoustic guitar through this thing. Sounds awesome.
SWR SM400 (old one with no transparency) with an SWR Goliath Jr II and a Mesa Boogie 15. I rarely user this thing but it came in awful handy when practicing and playing in a band with a very loud drummer and two dudes that played with hundred watt heads & half stacks.
Whew, I think I am done.
Oh, I like rock, blues & funk.
