Hi from Conrad in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. I've been looking at TalkBass for some time for various advice etc and found it very interesting and helpful. So thanks guys.
I started playing upright in the mid-60s in jazz bands who looked to the music of Morton, Armstrong, Basie, Ellington and Willie Dixon etc and then took up electric in the 80s for blues and early rock.
I now play a Fender Highway 1 Jazz which I've modded to deepen the lower cutaway for better access to the end of the board, stripped the honey blonde finish and French polished the body, and moved the output socket to the side so I could instal a master volume pot where the socket was on the bell plate. Well it works for me. I do most of my own setups having learned a lot from Dan Erlewine, BP Magazine, and lately from posts on TalkBass.
Have thought about a Hipshot "A" bridge but the mounting hassles may not be worth the AUS$160 it would cost, but am thinking about a set of DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pups (AUS$220). Anyone have any comments?
Cheers. Conrad.
