Nice to find all you knowledgeable folks on line.
I"ve been playing bass for a living for about 40 years now - R&B, jazz, most everything. I"ve been gigging a lot on mandolini as well, Gypsy jazz and Brazilian tunes.
My main axe for decades was a '72 Fender Fretless Jazz bass - stolen out of my house a few years back. Got a replacement on Ebay (74) a few years ago, but doesn't have the same feel or sound (also can't get rid of a 60 Hz buzz). I also have a BSX Series 2000 UEB (15 years now or so) that just recently crapped out at a gig (I've just gotten in touch with Dino there), and an Epiphone El Capitan el/acoustic bass guitar (with rattles and distortion on the low notes) - and my old upright. After all these years I' don't have an instrument i can't wait to play - very discouraging. Looking at the Eminence UEBs. I'm also wondering about these early Fenders - why such a variation in tone? So many questions, I'll search the forums, but anyone who might shed some light on these models and their ills, please do contact me. We're a bit isolated in Northern Vt. and I'm looking for answers.
many thanks, Will Patton wpatton.com
