Hello all. I am a rank beginner bass player. I chose the nickname basssoloist because I always play my bass alone in my room. I think that I really need lessons and I am going to get them in the new year. I don't know any chords, don't know how to tune a bass (those tuners that I bought just make me crazy).. didn't realize that there were so many different tunings for the bass so what's the difference anyway? but I have been reading here trying to gain more and more insight. I love the sounds that the bass can produce. right now it just makes me feel good to get at least some melodic stuff from my fingers and a small amp. it's kind of weird when some nice sounds actually come through. but...i do need professional help in the form of lessons. I am an older guy, couple of teenagers, look forward to getting sounds out of my bass for relaxation. so that's a little bout me in this new members forum. i have a yamaha rbx374 that i first bought about 7 months ago. the only other instrument that I CAN play is harmonica. i went from sounding like an injured cat to a pretty good blues honker but it took damn near 20 years. And with the same discipline, I am committed to learn the bass.

love this forum, it is really invaluable. thanks all.

Go standard and learn scales and chords in BEADG tuning if 5 string, EADG tuning if 4.

Go check out www.studybass.com to learn useful basics on a great public service site.

Thanks for the encouragement

Thanks alot Lowendfriend, Stacatto and Joe Gress. I know that at least two of you are in my age range, but I am older than both of you, so I appreciate that from the old timers. I am 62. Joe, I was looking at your profile and checking out some of the effects pedals that you list. Especially the rusty box. never even heard of those kinds of effects but I really like my pedals and seem to use them everytime I practiced/make sounds. As far as reading and learning, it is not a good plan for me. I actually need somebody to teach me. I learn best that way. The luthier who is setting up my other bass has suggested a local teacher. the teacher also plays in bands so I can't wait to set that up in 2010!

been reading some on basstalk today. really, really enjoy learning all this new stuff. again thanks for that warm welcome.
