Howdy,

I'm Trinen. I've been playing bass for about 15 years now. I play live once or twice a month with my current band the Betty For Falcons in Seattle. Occasionally we travel around the Northwest for shows. I found Talkbass while searching for reveiws and opinions on the Ampeg SVT CLassic which I'm about to buy. I know it's a great amp, and everyone uses it.

What I was hoping to find was some in-depth discussion on strategies for carrying/moving the thing. So far all I've found were people saying "yeah, it sure is heavy" and "old guys beware". As an old guy believe me I'm wary. On the other hand, I love the way these sound, and I've never owned one. So, I'm going to switch to the all tube goodness for as long as my old-guy body can take it. Really though, do people have any ingenious methods for dealing with the weight issue-like a good hand truck to recommend, or hiring out of work body builders, or an anti-gravity sled or something. I could ask my lead guitar player to take a handle and carry it with me, but that guy can't even carry his own stuff. Maybe I could get a Newfoundland dog and strap the amp to his back or something.

welcome

you would have better luck in the amps forum starting a thread with a suitable name

but for my two cents I believe that same head is available in a rack mounted version

this would open up all the options available with rack mounted gear

I have seen racks with wheels and racks with shock mounts
