New old guy or old new guy

I’m 55 years old with no musical background although I’ve always dreamed of doing something musical and a few months ago I decided to give bass guitar a go. I did my research online and decided on a white and black Squier Vintage Modified P-Bass because it had a name I recognized and good reviews, fit my price range and because it looked so bitchin’ (yeah, yeah, I know). I got a Peavey practice amp and some dummies and idiots books and ......gawd, this is so much fun! I played “Smoke on the Water” the first day (of course!) and I’m playing little bits and pieces of stuff I like including my all time favorite bass piece, the riff at the end of “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac, and making up some of my own stuff. My practice approach is pretty scattershot for now but I’m having fun learning the technique, teaching myself to read music and discovering new terms like guitard and GAS. I’m not sure where I want to go with this but it doesn’t really matter....it’s all good!
Any more out there like me who came to this late with little or no background?

Ray

Welcome to TB, slightly-older-than-me.
I thought I started late at 14(many moons ago), but I think you'll be fine- you seem to have a very good attitude about it.

If you mean the Squier Vintage Modified P-Bass that's white with a black pickguard, I have that one and it's very cool. I've owned a ton of basses over the years - vintage, high-end, etc. and you made an excellent choice. I think the tone, playability, and quality is great for the money. I wound up putting a gold pickguard on mine and it's very 60's looking.

Good luck and enjoy!
