New student, New strings, new lease of life...

I've been playing bass now for 19 years and teaching almost that long too. Played all sorts of stuff from Mozart to Sondheim to Megadeth to Duke Ellington to Elvis to Patsy Cline and most stuff in between. In amongst all that, I've playing bass at church ever since I've owned one.

After studying at Sydney conservatorium, playing bass and teaching professionally, five and a half years back I went to bible college (seminary to US people) to become a Minister/Pastor in the Church of England/Anglican/Episcopalian church. I was playing for a swing/rockabilly band at the time but got well and truly shafted by the managment about a year into college. Boy that was upsetting. Since then, I've been been playing the odd date depping for musicals and one or two sessions for friends. I've also been recording an album of my own stuff that's almost ready to be printed (after 3 years).

So the bass has been taking a bit of a back seat for a while, particularly the upright. Last time it came out of the case was february. Hardly got played at all last year.

Anyway, I got a new upright student the other day through a guitar teaching I was having some lessons with (bought a new tele last year). Opened up the case and surpise one of my strings had snapped.

Anyway to cut a long story short, put some new strings on today and fell in love with the sound all over again. So I thought I look up the web and find a forum and here I am...

Let me be the first to say welcome. There is a wealth of information here. Oh, and always do a search for info before starting a thread. (whispering) "They" like that.
