Hi everybody!

I've played with the idea of taking up bass for some time now, and I've finally decided to get serious about it. That's what brought me here, and I've been trying to edumacate myself about as much as I can before I get gear and really get started.

I have a friend who is a guitar freak but has also played bass, and he's going to teach me once I get set up and ready to go. I'm literally starting from square one here. I haven't played any instruments since grade school when I played french horn and trumpet, so I have a lot of work ahead of me. I'm going to be 38 next weekend, but I figure better late than never. I don't have any ambitions of being in a band or being a professional musician....I just want to get good enough to be able to jam with my friends.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop lurking and say hi. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions, but those will come up later. For now I'm going to keep reading along here because I doubt I'll have anything to contribute since I don't know anything yet! I look forward to talking to you guys and getting to know everybody....it seems like you have a nice community here.

Hey man that is great. I'm a little like you but over in SoCal.
I'm 38 and just barely scratching the surface on the ways of the bass. I picked up for my starter an Ibanez GSR200FM and a Fender 25w amp, sounds good and works perfect for lessons. I used to play brass in middle and high school, tuba was my thing tho, loved it so much. Everybody knew who I was, maybe not by name but that weird girl who played that big ol brass thing. I regret not sticking with music for the past 20 years tho, but at least now I'm back in and it feels good. Bass guitar just sounded more practical than lugging around a big ol tuba hahaha

I lurk and learn, and I do post in the off topic threads..dont worry you'll be fine.

Hey Tom...I'm also in the Phx metro area. Just started playing Jan 2010. Drop me a note sometime. We can share battle wound stories!
