Since I've been a lurker for some time and only recently actually registered, I thought a quick Hello was in order
(The title is based on how many of these probably have already posted, cumulatively speaking. )
Ok, brief intro.. I have been a full time musician since 16 and I'm now 41, so that makes me Old fart timer galore. The thing is, I've been a pro musician (and producer) on Keys all my life and not bass... which I started playing as a second instrument when I studied music at the conn in Sweden. I recently started actively playing and practice more seriously on bass since I show I am a part of requires me to play a fair bit of John Paul John's stuff.... So I had a couple of custom basses made according to specs and bought a bass rig (custom made pre-amp, a bridged power amp I had laying around and a hartke 410 xl cab, because It fitted my budget, but it might be replaced soon enough...) plus a few pedals to have fun with, a Demeter compulator, an EBS multicomp (that I am getting rid of from the board)..an ebs octaver, boss fb2 (set on almost chorus like setting and a boss ge7b + CE 2 and a couple of distortion pedals I'm not happy with at all, (ibanez fat head that I currently just use in clean setting as a boost and digitech bass driver... but they're too noisy for my taste so they're very sparingly used.. but that might change once I get my pre-amp back from my tech who is installing a parallel effect loop with blend knob on it for me.. . + making a 2 loop with true bypass pedal board thingie
anyway.. keyboards are still my main instrument but heck, I have to say that I enjoy playing bass more now.. maybe because it's fairly new to me (only played a few years ) ..
Still don't consider myself anywhere near proficient on the instrument... fair enough, I play the JPJ stuff note perfect and have studied the necessary technique for Bass playing ... (spent 8 hours a day for a few weeks just getting the finger picking down pat... and that is with being a keyboardist who with some reason should have control and dexterity in his fingers there LOL)
I am now getting totally hooked on all the funky stuff with ghost noting and 'grooving it'.... it is a mentally slightly different approach from keyboard playing that I enjoy very much.. it's not about how many notes you play, it's more about how and when it's played, kinda thing...
Although I appreciate Victor W. and all the other tappers and soloist, I guess deep down I think I am more traditionalist about my approach to bass... fundation and building a groove, If I want to solo over a piece of music, I go on to the keys LOL
Anyway, just thought I'd say hi before making a fool of myself around the boards
Cheers,
Hawk
