I am a new member and would classify myself as barely intermediate. Got a great Fender Jazz Bass as a present over the holiday season and really enjoy it. Bought a new Fender 60 amp bass to go with it. The problem I have is that it doesn't provide the strong bass sound i would have expected . At times it sounds a bit tinny-I thought it might be the strings which were store issue- i don't know much about them. I don't mind going back to the store but i thought this might be a bit more objective sounding board. Any suggestions? Please provide any suggestions regarding which strings to use. Thnks,

What are you using for an amp? Have you tried adjusting the amp controls?

Fender 60 Amp bass- i have toned down the treble and increased the bass which helps the lower strings but not as much with the first and second strings.

I'm not familiar with that amp, but I'd guess you'd want at least a ten inch speaker for bass, and at least 100 watts. Bass needs more power and more speaker than any other instrument. In order to get a truly deep sound, the amp has to be capable of reproducing the fundamentals down to 40Hz.

Are you plugged into the passive input (if there is one)? Have you tried many different pickup combos with the Jazz bass?

One thing you might try (carefully) - if you have a good stereo, try plugging into it (via a casette deck mic input, if you have one). Start with the volume low, and bring it up gradually. If you can't do this, I'd go back to the store and try it with another amp.

Good luck with this one!
