Cool Newbie with questions for everyone ...

Hi everyone! I am a new bass player and I'm trying to mainly play in our church worship band.

I have some questions that I'm hoping you can all help me with:

1. I plug directly into the sound system and I can't hear myself in the monitors. Someone told me it's because the bass requires more wattage and having my own amp for a monitor may help?

2. What would you suggest for practicing. I was looking for a method to record and then play along with our rehearsals when at home. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know how to play the guitar and have pretty much always done that. Now, there's more need for a bass (everyone plus the guitar these days) and I'm really really enjoying the bass, but I just can't find my groove. I think it's because I have a tendency to want to strum and have a more complex/rythmic strumming verses just playing a groove. Does anyone know what I'm experiencing and if so will the guitar 'habits' go away finally?

I have really found a new appreciation for the bass and I just want to succeed and enjoy it.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from anyone.

to the first one, tell them to turn you up, or get a amp.
