Hi all.

been lurking here for a couple of days now as I`m thinking of taking up the BG.

My musical history - played double/upright bass at school (grade five level here in the UK), but the last time I picked one up must have been 27 years ago. Started to teach myself geetar but then found myself plucking the bass strings and eventually gave up after telling myself that I HAD to use all 6 strings where possible. That 5 digits but 6 strings thing still bugs me!!

The other funny thing is that whenever I`m at a gig or listening to music, I ALWAYS seek out the bass lines.

So, I`m currently looking for a sub £100($200) bass/practice amp set here in the UK (anything I should avoid in particular?). Also any thoughts on 4 or 5 string (and appropriate tunings for the extra string)

As for fave bassists??

Glenn Hughes, Lemmy, Paul McCartney, Sting (when he was in the Police), Steve Harris.
