Noob not quite reformed femme metaller picking up bass again

Hi everyone

In the '80s, I attempted to learn bass but wasn't ready. Had a BC Rich Eagle.

Long story short, this 40-something Metal momma (not literally just figuratively in the momma department) is starting up again. Headbanging to Hail of Bullets, Bolt Thrower, Motorhead and others just isn't cutting it any more. I want to play along...

Something about the bass calls to me, it's the instrument I always notice first. The guitar might command but the bass demands.

Don't know much, but I've been researching basses (narrowing it down to Schecter or another BC Rich) and watching instructional dvds to get the jist. So I will be asking questions and looking forward to learning this great instrument.

Every time I look up a particular bass or such in google this forum comes up! So here I am.

I know I'll be starting off slow until late Summer when University finally ends...but...I'm looking forward to jumping in.

Welcome to the journey. I'm just beginning to learn myself. Callouses forming on my fingers and limbering up my hands to make that four fret stretch.

Like you, the bass has always called to me. When I hum along to songs, I always hum the bass line. I've been singing for quite awhile, and I sing the baritone part, so I'm familiar with working with the bass cleft.

I've never been able to play an instrument, but when I tire of playing scales and doing exercises I start searching my iTunes library for simple bass songs. It's a thrill to find those easy three note songs and play along.

While I'm not quite ready to gig yet, I am really excited about finding someone to jam with and learn a few songs. Can't want for my first gig. I'll be like a kid at Christmas. I've sang in front of packed houses and never got stage fright, but I'm betting the butterflies will be going full force the first time I have to play live.

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the low end welcomes.

YeahDoIt: sadly, I don't study music at University, finishing up my Humanities Associates.

I bought a Schecter Custom Stiletto yesterday. Feels beautiful, plays even better than I remember my old BC Rich Eagle. I'm making time to just get used to the bass every day in and around work and school.

Looking forward to when I can actively contribute here, thanks for the inspiring comments Chad.

Hey Kazplay, I'm in kind of a similar situation as you; I started playing at 17, wasn't quite ready and let it fall by the wayside. Just picked it back up recently at 25, sold my old electra westone that didn't really feel comfortable to me anyway, got a schecter stiletto custom 5 too!!! (my father made me get a 5 string) The stiletto feels like a dream, just like you said

Welcome to the bassment. What a beautiful journey we're on
