Novice Bass Player

Hi Everyone...been playing guitar for ~10yrs with friends and effectively garage band stuff. We recently lost our original bass player and I've been tasked to take over that role. I've gotten a nice fender bass amp and a Cort bass guitar.

We are now just a trio and having loads of fun working up songs we can handle as a 3pc band....I've bought books, CD's, went online to learn the techniques of playing bass, it's been a good jounery so far, but I've a ways to go. Any ideas on advancing my learning with the bass?
