Old Ampeg SVT-III Pro

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm building an ampeg rig. Currently have a 410, and a 210 powered by a new B2RE with an older SVT-IIP tube preamp and am pretty pleased with the sound. Also, in an attempt to consolidate the preamp and amp into one, I purchased a 12 year old SVT-III Pro (old style).

My question is this:
Do all of the older SVT-III Pros have a dirtier sound? Or, is it just this one amp? I took it to a tech, and we methodically replaced every tube in the unit in hopes that it might be the tubes. Alas, the dirt was still there. Any thoughts? Thanks.
