Old Guy Picks Up the Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello Bassplayers. I'm an old guy (56) who out of the blue decided to try the bass. I'd never touched one or any stringed instrument, but I did play a bit of trombone in high school. I rented a bas for a few months and then bought a Jazz (Geddy Lee signature, made in Japan). I've fallen in love with playing. It's been almost two years and while I still call myself a beginner, I've come a long way. Tonight I'm playing with a group of much better musicians then me at a private party (at my house, no less) for about 20 people. It's by no means a paying gig, but it's not bad for an Old Guy.

If anyone would like to respond our share whatever they want to, I'd be happy to hear it.

Welcome to TB, good luck with you're playing and future bass work.
A Geddy lee signature, very nice there, saw one the other day.

Have fun tonight! That is about the size of the gigs I usually play.

In case any of you are interested, my gig last night was a huge success. 18 songs that all came off great. I managed to hang in for all of them and nailed the short solo in Brown Eyed Girl

You're never too old! And that's great news about your gig, congratulations. Of course it's easy to get the gig when it's at your house -- heh! But that's cool it all came off well, and Brown Eyed Girl has always been one of my favorite songs and it's mainly because of the bass tracks.
