My wife will tell you I'm not much for reading the manual. I didn't realize until just today that I was supposed to "check in" here. As it stands I've been reading and posting for a few weeks now.

Male, White, 50 Years of Age, Born in the U.S.A., grew up mostly in Birmingham, Alabama, started playing bass at 15 years of age, also started playing acoustic guitar and a little later, classical guitar. Very first bass guitar ever was a Fender Mustang '73, stolen in my freshman year in college .

Studied upright bass a bit in high school and in college, played some jazz, bluegrass, prog, and classical (in the college symphony) in my early years. Left it all to become an engineer.

In the last couple of years have had an increasing urge to get back into playing, trying now to get my chops in order.

Currently have a Fender MIM Fretless Jazz, a brand-new Ibanez SR-506 six-string, a Michael Kelly 5-string Fretless Firefly ABG, and a DeArmond Ashbory that I fool around with on occasion. Have a Rickenbacker 4003 Fireglo on order, slated to take delivery this summer.

Also have a plethora of acoustic guitars, both six- and twelve-string.

Love virtually all kinds of music with the exception of "commercial" country and hip-hop (not the "trip-hop" stuff which is actually pretty cool; I mean the silly, anti-social cr*p the kids love). Like playing Jazz and prog the most, however.

Currently live in Houston, Texas, have four kids and three grandchildren. Wonderful wife who puts up with my "guitar silliness" as she thinks of it. She's a flautist, and a pretty good one, so at least she has some understanding.

Just started putting a band together doing original prog and Jazz stuff, great keyboard player, and an energetic drummer who's younger than two of my kids! Also starting to take "Jazz theory" private instruction with a professor of music who just moved here after a stint at University of North Texas in Denton.

Regards to all.
