I've been playing bass for about 20years. I am a gospel musician. I read a little, but play mostly by ear. Playing weekly, I pretty much can play any gospel song out there. Didn't start that way though. I did the club thang for a while until I realized I had to change my life. Born-again, wish everyone could be, but to each his own. I wouldn't consider myself a "professional" because there is still much for me to learn. I own a few basses: Fender jazz 5, Fender P 4, a reconstructed 78 Guild with a P/J setup, Ibenez and a fretless Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5.

There is something that we as bass players have the awesome privilege to do, and that is “hold down the bottom!!” Think about it, we are the only ones that occupy that space. Every other instrument (generally speaking) shares the higher frequencies with someone else. I love it! In my opinion there is no other instrument like “floor-shaking,” “feel it in your body” BASS!! Try cutting the sub-woofers off on your car stereo or surround sound system and you'll see what I mean.

playing weekly, 20 years experience.... semi-pro might suit you. How's that Dragonfly? I really want to try one out some day.

Keyboards can go lower... as well as some of us play Extended range basses that can get pretty high.

But yeah, Bass is where it's at

You'll find many Church players here... a good many TB members are active at their churches. But also a good many that fancy different Gods and many no Gods at all. We have a pretty tight "No Religion" policy as far as posting goes, but feel free to add signature professing your faith (so long as it's not specifically worded against other faiths).

If you want to talk it up, we do have a "Lobby" section that supporting members can access... politics is the only thing not allowed there.

That's right, keyboards can go lower, and other basses higher. I'm just a purist. I think that we originally call it "bass" because that's where it was created to dwell. It's all good though. Play hard-live well!

By the way I really like the Dragonfly. I did test Fender, Dean and some other brand I can't remember. I replaced the stock DiAdarios with a set of phospher bronze and I'm lovin it! Great tone and sustain, it plays a little louder than the others in my opinion. Mine is Black, love the design and feel. Plugged in it has lots of punch, I was supprised. The pictures I've seen don't do the bass any justice. In person it is beautiful!
