Questions for anyone with knowledge on wood basses

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, I'm currently starting a search for a new bass. I have a Yamaha John Myung signature series 6 string now, but I want a wood bass next for that warmer tone. I just don't know too much about wood basses and I'm trying to find some info on what a good bass to look for would be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your bass is wood. Most basses are made of wood. They just have a solid color finish that you cannot see through to the wood.

Yeah, I know my bass is wood, but I'm looking to find more top of the line basses that are made with somewhat exotic woods. Like Warwick is a pretty standard wood bass company, but companies like Tobias and Carvin make some pretty sweet basses. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any other companies along those lines.

Ah, ok. Wood and exotic wood are different beasts...

There are a TON of basses made with "exotic" woods ranging from bubinga and wenge, to crazier stuff like burls and crotch maples, and other insane-o things. Go take a peek at the basses forum, and the "What kind of basses do you play" thread. Tons of examples in there.
