Hi my name is Jim Reed I am the owner of Reed James Engineering .I started my company in 2006 I use to enjoy building guitars and putting them together. then started to experiment with building pickups I did that for a few years before starting my company. At that time I was still hand winding pickups . In 2007 I met a guitar builder name Woody Wood Caster he see my work on my space and ask me if I could build him pickups made out of wood. So I tried and did. I started to experiment with the wood pickups .Built a CNC and with the help of Cad Cam to make wood flat work rings bobbins, and covers .well that took off I was getting orders left and right. Nov 2009 I built and invented the robowinder™. I got a hold of a 1959 PAF and blew up the coil to speck out the pitch per turn. and calculated the speeds and feeds to write the program. so to duplicate the winding pattern of the original PAF. And came up with the Robowound™ PAF . So as I grew I kept adding more and more pickup models. And with my robowound™ technology I was producing better sounding pickups then hand winding. I had more control of the coil and was able to duplicate it every time .So that is the birth of the product’s I build Today.
Thank you and I look forward to being accepted as a contributing member of talk bass.

Reed James 1970's custom Jazz Pickups

I want to thank Reed James for making such wonderful vintage style Jazz Pickups for my Elrick Evolution. Now the bass is a true modern/classic. Looks new sounds vintage.

Looks great.

So those are Jazz pickups in what looks like a modern single coil housing? What are the woods?
