Been lurking here for a couple of years now, and I recently became a supporting member, but I've never taken the trouble to introduce myself.
My name is Chris Fox. I've been playing for almost 30 years, and have run the gamut from metal to jazz, folk, country, rock, top-40, and church. My resume' includes:
-the Seattle metal scene from the late 80's (Bitter End, "Harsh Realities" on Metal Blade/Warner Brothers), Church at the Center in Seattle,
-Memphis, TN in the 90's (The Trust, Apostles of Love Song Orchestra),
-Seattle in the early 00's (Geoff Tate Band [yes, of Queensryche--the one time I got called up into the major leagues], Hartwood)
-and now Wichita, KS (Kickstart, Clif Major/The Jukes).
Like many of the oldies here, I've changed with the times, though my advancing years (42 this year) seem to be driving my listening tastes and stylistic approaches further and further back to the roots from which contemporary American musics have sprung. That said, my new bass ride is a Metro Sadowsky M-24, so I can't be TOO much of a fossil.
What bassists do I listen to and incorporate? The following would be the greatest influences on my playing (not that I necessarily play like any of them):
-Steve Harris
-James Jamerson
-Bruce Thomas
-Jaco Pastourius
-Charles Mingus
-Duck Dunn
-Tommy Cogbill
-Neil Murray
-Carol Kaye
-Willie Weeks
-Bob Daisley
-Rick Danko
-Tina Weymouth
-Pete Farndon
-Jerry Scheff
-Leroy Hodges
-Emory Gordy Jr.
-Roy Huskey Jr.
-Bob Glaub
-Sir Paul
-Chris Glenn
-Geezer Butler
-Chris Squire
-Paul Chambers
-Lee Sklar
I could go on and on. But it might be better to let the music do the talking. Here's last night's gig with the new Sadowsky.
