Hello everyone. Here's the deal...

I love music in most shaoe and forms. I used to take piano lessons (took 'em for 6 years or so) but grew tired of the instrument a bit when I got into rock music. I once wanted to play guitar and thought I could learn it on my own but quickly gave up on it. I haven't played any instrument in quite a while now...

I recently realised I had a major interest in bass. Mostly because of two bands I listen to a lot: Tool and Protest the Hero. So I figured I'd give a shot at learning to play bass and maybe someday (hopefully soon) be able to pull the very nice riffs in PTH's album Fortress.

This time though, I'm more realistic and I want to take lessons and properly learn the instrument. I know some of you out there manage to learn through getting tabs and playing along... but I seriously doubt this would suit me.

Ok this post is getting a lil long so I'll get to the point: I wanna buy a bass and I'm considering Washburn, Spector, and maybe ESP. I'd probably spend up to 500$ on the actual bass. I'm open to any other brand if you can convince me otherwise. I'm thinking about getting a Line 6 Bass Pod XT because I'll use headphones anyway (for now, because I have neighbours!)

So... I'd like some advice on buying a bass, amp (or pod), and perhaps even on what to look for in a teacher?! Please keep in mind I would mostly play music that I listen to, meaning rock, metal, punk, etc. (I can list my favourite bands if it helps).

Thanks to anyone who took time to read my post and thaks for any advice
