Should I Take the Plunge?

Hello everyone,

First off I'm hoping I’m in the right area to post this question...thinking I am. As of late I have been thinking of picking up the bass, but I’m worried that doing so may not be in my best interest. Besides always having an interest in playing the bass my interest really got sparked when (I feel like such a newb for saying this)..... playing guitar hero. I understand that it is not like the real thing but I’m kind of hooked. My brother has been playing guitar for a number of years and he could help me learn. I do have a small history in music playing trombone for about 4 or 5 years in middle/highschool.

I guess my main concern is that I do have a number of other hobbies and interest (that being said most are summer related) and with a notion that this could just be a “fad” desire with a price tag attached makes me a little cautious. So, really I just want a shoulder to cry on and some opinions from you guys “the community”
