Hi - this is my intro.

Name is Stan and am from Sydney in Australia. (Kellyville Ridge if you wanna be precise!)

Learning the Bass - slowly!

Have a daughter who plays the guitar - and she is damn good - at 12!

Let me see - what else.

Married, three daughters ranging in age from 24 to 12.

In the IT industry - so if you wanna quick hack written give me a shout!

Have decided at the ripe age of 50 to learn something so have purchased a (1st) cheap Bass and am slowly progressing - have ordered David Hodges book - but am finding that it takes a long while to cross the many light years between Amazon US and Australia.

Looking forward to learning at my own pace - have no specific target apart from enjoying myself!

Hey Stan

Whats up? Great to see you along at talkbass. Even greater to see you taking up bass - never too late hey? Hope you really enjoy it whatever you want to get out it.

My only advice would be maybe to get some intro lessons from someone in your local area. Even its just a single lesson to get you pointed in the right direction. Books are great but nothing beats someone showing you the basics from the start. Oh and if you call somewhere asking for some lessons make sure its with a "bass player" and not a guitarist who teaches bass

Have fun!

I assume you have no issues playing Bass wearing velcro gloves?

Tanks for the welcome.

(We beat the poms so that's the important thing!)

Thanks for the advice - Whilst she only plays guitar, I soak up my daughters teachers lessons.

Wouldn't mind catching up with someone in Sydney just for an evening however!

All the best

Stan
