 String Dillemma!!!!!

Gday,
I was just wondering if anyone could help. I have two basses, an ESP Viper 101 (White) and a 2nd hand Musicman Stingray (Black) and I am in dire need of new strings. I play metalcore/hardcore stuff (IKTPQ, Carpathian or Parkway Drive for the Aussie fans or As I Lay Dying, Unearth or It Dies Today for the USA fans) and I wanted to know form someone with a little more experience than me, what gauge string I need to get so I can play Drop C/B/A and not have that annoying ringing, whining noise that light strings have when you tune really low.
Plus has anyone got any tips for speed training?
