subterranean dub reggae sounds

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello to all on the talkbass.com forum.
I'm currently playing in a dub reggae band (great fun!) and would like some advice on how to get some really DEEP sounds out of my current rig. I'm playing a Steinberger Spirit (w/ EMG pickups) through a Trace Elliot AH300-7 amp into a 1x15 Trace Elliot cabinet. This setup gives me lots of power and volume, but I find that the overall sound is a little too thin and metallic. The 'Shape' button on the amp yields some interesting variations, but I haven't had much luck yet with the 7 band equalizer. (The same is true when I try to run the head directly through our PA).
Are there any special effects/pedals/stomp boxes, etc. that I could use to help get that great, rolling, dubby bass sound as heard on most classic 70's Trojan Records singles and versions?
Any advice from fellow reggae afficionados would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
