Hi all. Im a 38 year old bass player from Brisbane, Australia. Have been playing on and off for around 23 years.
Even before I knew what in the hell I was doing I was playing with a band, doing parties and backyard stuff. Aint it lucky that drunks are easy to please? hahahaha
Ya know, it took me 17 years for the whole deal to really strike me. Struggled to really grasp the whole bass riff thing, but persisted as I didnt wanna be another boring bass player like some of the stiff, stand-in-one-place bassists you see from time to time. I used to hate doing scales, so I didnt. I just played along to CDs and the radio. One day something just clicked and I was throwing my hands around like a madman. Even suprised myself. Octaves, scales and modes all of a sudden made sense. These days I can play most songs after one or two listens. I can even claim to almost match Flea for most riffs, and I use a pick.
Nikki Sixx has always been my guiding influence. Although I never copied his style, I used to watch Motley vids over and over just to learn his songs. He also influenced many other aspects of my life thru the years.
I am self-taught (with some helpful instruction from other bass players here and there). Still practice a couple of hours everyday, and have been told I 'rock'! I play a 5-string these days, mainly because I got sick of tuning down. I was once told 'Never play an open string if you can help it'. Now I dont have to.
Looking like Im moving to Michigan sometime this year. If any of you guys live in the Ann Arbor area and could use a jamming partner, Im your man. But be warned, once I start playing, I will go for hours if you dont pull my power. hahaha
Enough of my babble. You know what Im about........... see you in text.
